Unite and PCS members on strike at British Museum

Last Monday I went down to the picket line outside the British Museum where Unite and PCS cleaning and maintenance staff were striking against outsourcing. Other Unite delegates from the London and Eastern Regional Committee had also gone along. The picket line had already been going for two hours when I arrived, but the picket line was lively and in good spirits.

Union members I spoke to there are rightly highly concerned about the prospect of a TUPE transfer. It's now becoming clear that TUPE is no longer a guarantee of your terms and conditions, but can be seen as a way of driving down costs, and conditions, across the board.

Members seemed defiant and eager to pursue the fight. Next Monday, 5th November, they will be striking again, and from 4-7pm there will be a picket line. All are welcome to come and show support.

More info and email link to branch secretary for messages of support can be found at the link on Unite the Resistance webpage.
